Gary Ballance

Gary Ballance

Born and raised in Zimbabwe where his parents were tobacco farmers, Gary Ballance moved to England in 2006, having already represented his birth nation in an ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup aged just 16 years old. Good domestic performances saw the batsman chosen for his one-day international debut in September 2013 against Ireland, where he scored a duck on debut. Ballance's second ODI outing was much more satisfying, scoring 79 against Australia. That performance remains Ballance's best from his first 16 ODIs and the batsman missed the late-2014 series against Sri Lanka, but he earned a recall to the side for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Ballance made his Test debut during England’s 2013-14 tour of Australia, starting in the middle order but quickly settling into the No.3 position where he struck a rich vein of form in the five-day game during 2014. He was dropped during South Africa's tour of England but boasts a fantastic first-class record, averaging a tick under 50, with 32 centuries to his name.

He represented Zimbabwe in Under-19s cricket.
