Captain Misbah-ul-Haq scored a steady half-century and effected two crucial run-outs as Pakistan clinched the one-day series against Zimbabwe with a sizeable win in Saturday’s third and final match.
Misbah’s 67 proved to be the top score in the game as Pakistan posted a total of 260 for six, before bowling Zimbabwe out in 40 overs to win by 108 runs and complete a 2-1 series victory.
The series decider had been cast into doubt after Zimbabwe’s players threatened to boycott the match over unpaid salaries and match fees, but the home side took the field after setting a new ultimatum for the first Test on Tuesday.

The final one-day international between Zimbabwe and Pakistan on Saturday looks set to go ahead after Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) fended off another proposed player strike over unpaid wages on Friday, a must win match for both sides in series decider.
ZC had promised that all money owing to the players, who have not been paid since the end of June, would be settled by Wednesday after the players refused to train ahead of Pakistan’s tour.
However the board failed to meet that deadline, sparking further conversations among the players when they arrived for training on Friday morning.
The players took part in some planning sessions for Saturday’s third ODI, but threatened to boycott the match if the money owed to them was not in their accounts by 5pm (1500 GMT).
In the meantime, should they take the field on Saturday Zimbabwe will have the opportunity to inflict their first ever one-day series victory over Pakistan.
Having endured the ignominy of a seven-wicket defeat to Zimbabwe in the first ODI on Tuesday, Pakistan bounced back to win the second match by 90 runs thanks largely to Mohammad Hafeez’s classy century.
However Misbah-ul-Haq’s side know that they are not out of the woods, and are determined to avoid another indelible black mark on their record from a side who are ranked tenth in the world and have clashed regularly with their own board over the course of the past five months.
The 3rd odi is crucial for both sides, the series decider, and both teams have high hope to seal the series with 2-1.
The 3rd ODI between Pakistan vs Zimbabwe is being played at Harare Sports Club today on Saturday August 31, 2013 at 07:30 GMT, 09:30 local in Zimbabwe and 12:30 PKT in Pakistan.
Players to watch
Nasir Jamshed, one of the most promising batsmen in world cricket, had an exciting start to the year. Things have fizzled down a bit since then. The selectors’ decision to drop him from the Test squad raised a few eyebrows, but with scores of 2, 23, 27 and 32 on this tour, the case against him has only got stronger. Pakistan have two important tours against South Africa and Sri Lanka later this year and this match is Jamshed’s last chance to bring himself back into the spotlight.
Brian Vitori has picked up a couple of wickets in both the matches. In the second ODI, he dismissed two specialist batsmen in the first half of the innings, but was taken for runs towards the end. However, in the first ODI, his spells were a mirror image: he was expensive at the start, but incisive towards the end. He bowls with good pace and if he can stay consistent during the match, he is always a threat to pick wickets.
