Match Update

South Africa – South Africa won the toss and decided to bat in the fourth one-day international against Pakistan at Kingsmead on Thursday.

South Africa, who lead the five-match series 2-1, were without Faf du Plessis, who will miss the last two matches as well as the start of the Indian Premier League next month because of a back injury.

He was replaced by David Miller, who plays for the Durban-based Dolphins franchise.

Pakistan also made one change, with Imran Farhat replacing opening batsman Nasir Jamshed, in a day match starting in bright sunshine.

Update:

Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq led his side to a three-wicket win over South Africa in the fourth one-dayer Thursday, setting up a series decider in the final match in Benoni on Sunday.

Misbah made 80 and Imran Farhat scored 93 as Pakistan chased down South Africa’s total of 234 for nine with eight balls to spare.

Misbah and opening batsman Farhat shared a 153-run fourth wicket partnership after Pakistan had been struggling at 33 for three after 11 overs.

Match Preview

Here we go with the 4th match of the 5-Match ODI series. South Africa is leading the series with 2-1 and will look forward to win the 4th ODI to seal the series as both teams move from Johannesburg to Durban. Pakistan on the other hand have bowling crisis and left-arm pacer Sohail Tanvir has been added. Winning this match is crucial to keep the series alive.

The left-arm pacer Sohail Tanvir has been added in Pakistan’s squad for remaining two One Day Internationals against South Africa as cover for injured Umar Gul and Mohammad Irfan.

Tanvir joined Pakistan squad during third ODI at the Wanderers on Sunday. He was already in South Africa playing for the Lions in Ram Slam Twenty20, the domestic T20 tournament of South Africa.

He will be available for selection in next two matches at Durban and Benoni on March 21 and 24 respectively. However, meanwhile he is allowed to play for the Lions if they need him and the fixtures don’t clash with the Pakistan series.

Irfan, the seven-foot tall bowler, is struggling with a stomach bug. He had to leave the field during the Wanderers match and was treated off field. He also picked up a hamstring strain on Friday night in Centurion although Misbah clarified that “there is nothing wrong with his hamstring.” Irfan returned to bat later in the match. Gul, who has been out of form, was left out of the third match with a knee injury.

For South Africa, Faf du Plessis has been ruled out of the remaining two ODIs against Pakistan and the first four weeks of the IPL with back trouble. Du Plessis will require six weeks rest and has been replaced by Quinton de Kock in the South Africa squad.

Weather & Ground:

If the weather forecast is to be believed, that will change on Thursday. Not a drop of rain is predicted as the coastal city finally decides to show off its sunnier side and temperatures are expected to soar.

The Kingsmead ground is a heaven for bowlers and it will be lot difficult to score. Despite their lack of experience, Pakistan bowlers will hope to take advantage of conditions that should suit them. Kingsmead is traditionally a low-scoring ground with the average runs per over only 4.66. Totals above 250 are not all that common and it could even have something in it for the spinners.

The 4th ODI between Pakistan vs South Africa is being played at Kingsmead, Durban on Thursday Mar 21 at 08:00 GMT, 10:00 local in Durban and 13:00 PKT in Pakistan.
